WW2 German Merit Cross (KVK1) - Steinhauer & Lück Cased

This 1939 War Merit Cross with Swords, also known as KVK1, is an impressive relic from Germany’s wartime awards. Crafted from zinc and marked “4” for Steinhauer & Lück, Lüdenscheid, it remains well-preserved in its original box of issue. Acquired from the Samuel Presley Nesmith Jr. Texas Museum of Military History Collection in 2020, this award symbolizes merit and service during one of history’s most defining conflicts.

The KVK1 was introduced as a commendation for military or civil personnel who exhibited extraordinary merit in service. With swords added, the decoration denoted valor in the face of the enemy. As a preserved example with known provenance, this piece carries immense historical significance.
