The Story

This is an original WWII-era German Reichsverband für Zucht und Prüfung Deutscher Warmbluts (RZPW) Rider Stickpin, issued by the national association responsible for the breeding and testing of German warmblood horses. Stickpins of this type were awarded in recognition of participation and achievement within organized equestrian and breeding programs.

The obverse features the RZPW rider motif executed in fine relief and is described as retaining a flawless finish. This example represents the silver-grade award, which was typically associated with show or racing horses and higher-tier breeding stock. Bronze awards were generally issued for large working horses, while gold-grade examples represented top-tier breeds, including elite bloodlines such as Arabian horses. The reverse is marked “LAUER NÜRNBERG,” indicating manufacture by L. Chr. Lauer of Nürnberg-W, a known period producer, and is additionally marked “935."

This is a rare and desirable example of German equestrian organization insignia from the World War II era and is well suited for collectors specializing in Third Reich–period pins and equestrian awards, as well as for historical reference within a broader collection.
